Denny N. Hastings is a founding partner of Pocus Plus, LLC. Denny was born in 1947 and raised on a family dairy farm in Marshall County, Tennessee. He developed his strong work ethic on the farm where he had many chores he tended to before and after school.
He attended Marshall County High School and graduated in 1965. While in school he continued to help manage the family farm and took jobs in manufacturing and worked double shifts at Heil Quaker Manufacturing whenever the opportunity presented itself. He saved his money to pay his way through college and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1969 with a major in marketing, industrial arts and economics. He secured his first job as a schoolteacher at Shelbyville Central High School where he taught math and architectural drawing. Along with his teaching job he developed a flooring business with his father in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Denny taught at Central from 1969 until 1973. In 1974 he resigned from teaching to devote all his energy to his start-up business. Because he had so many relationships with home builders through his flooring company, it was natural for him to see a niche in the home building industry. He applied his math and business skills to the financial side of construction and worked with bankers to develop unique mortgage packages helping mid-level income families realize the dream of owning their own home. He also got in the land development business with other partners to develop subdivisions and commercial business parks.
By using his own knowledge of finance and design, Denny was able to build nice homes at more affordable prices than his competitors. His company, American Homes Constructors, Inc., developed thousands of lots and built over ten thousand quality homes. His fellow builders have recognized his contributions and leadership by giving him the Rutherford County Home Builders Associations Home Builder of The Year award twice in the early 2000s and in 2008, Rutherford County Homebuilders presented him with the coveted Sonny Lane Business Legends Award in recognition of his excellence in building and land development.
In 2005 the National Home Builders of America gave American Homes an award for developing quality neighborhoods for America’s “workforce” to include police, firemen, and other essential providers of services that every community depends on. In 1993 the National Home Builders Association along with representatives from 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty awarded American Homes with the National Diamond Builder of the year for excellence.
In 1996 Denny’s son Shane Hastings joined the company and today serves as the company president and Co owner. As a team Denny and Shane have built over 2000 houses and developed over 3000 lots. Today Denny serves as the company’s chairman and offers his assistance when needed.
